Nikki is serving a life sentence for killing a policeman who was trying to rape her girlfriend. Helen is a new Wing Governor. They clash to begin with but, Helen sees a lot of potential in Nikki and as the two come to know each other, they gradually fall in love.
Helen instigates an appeal where new evidence turns up. She is forced to resign her job as governor due to lack of support from the prison governor and corruption of a senior officer but, she then gets a job with the Home Office and can really work on getting Nikki's case appealed.

Calais, Maine. Not far from the St. Stephen/Calais Canadian/USA border crossing. Oct 2014. Bit of a wet and breezy day but, the leaves still look so colourful. Beautiful rapids and moving water too.
Snow melting

This is how fast the snow was melting from the roof all day yesterday and all night. It was so fast it was like it was raining. Still melting today even though it was below zero all day and, still a lot more to melt from it too judging by the icicles hanging from there again..

What I really dont get. How come womens hairstyles in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, even the 70's, 80's and 90's, were SO much better than those of today? Women today dont seem to have any love of thier hair. Its either scrunch it all into a bun behind the head (the infamous council house facelift), hold it up with a tacky looking hairclip, or let it flop
Maybe it has to do with not having time anymore. We're so busy now and hair is mostly a last thought unless we're going somewhere special? I don't know but, these classic ladies all had such classic style, didn't they? Thanks for the comment :)

I may be wrong, but these so called "slave homes" look more like sharecroppers homes to me. not there was too much of a difference in the system, per se. I live in the south I and see such, often enough. I stand to be corrected though.
terri williams nope. I've seen old photos from the Civil War era with houses identical to these. They were likely bought cheap, reused, and updated by sharecroppers. People still do buy and live in old slave quarters today, mostly for a small family, or foreigners that can only afford small houses.
Nmichelly Rosiebell I am. I've always lived in Louisiana and frequently pass many previous slave quarters that have been converted into regular modern homes on the road.
share cropper houses were no different than a slave hut. I went to S.C. and viewed some of them. Sharecropping had minimalist benefit over chattel slavery. . . still a slave on slave masters land and no autonomy.

To Dee Hembree............i've seen Your Appalachia. Driving by 'house' after 'house' that were constructed of cardboard appliance boxes, plastic sheeting, rusted scrap metal, an occasional chimney spewing stove smoke for warmth & cooking. I have witnessed some vile and scary things in my long life but never would I have expected to see families housed in cardboard boxes, no other shelter, in the dead of the American Appalachia winter.

it's sugar cane houses...for housing people who work the cane fields. As a matter of fact their are some in back of St.martinville, LA by the cane plant that house alot of Mexicans.....its hard ass work but it pays and they get a roof over their head.
